Vigo to Arcade, 24 kms, 8/29/18

We missed the flatness of the Senda Litoral as we took the inland route on Wednesday but enjoyed being in the forest and out of the big city of Vigo. Lots of the markers in this section did not have their distance plaques, locals say they have been stolen ☹️. My knees were very glad when we finished the steep descent to Redondela. Our legs tried to remember their training in the hills of Costa Rica as we finished up after 24 kms with more ups and downs in the lovely little town of Arcade.

It was good to leave the sprawl of Vigo behind!

The way out of Vigo was along the Senda de Aguas.

It was sad to see markers that had been vandalized.

Most of today was along peaceful paths like this one, between forests of ferns, eucalyptus and pine trees. My allergies seem to prefer the Spanish forest…

I realized we hadn’t taken a selfie in a while….getting more tanned as our Camino progresses, in spite of sunscreen.

We appreciated the shade as the day progressed…

Pilgrims bring shells and leave them here for intentions, thoughts, prayers or as a memorial.

And they named a road for us! Peregrinos = Pilgrims

Lots of ups and downs today!

Shoes on the trail pointing to the two routes, the Camino to Santiago and the walk to Fatima. Fatima is also an important pilgrimage site, specially on the 13th of the months of May to October to celebrate the days of the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1917.
