Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis, 24.3 kms, 9/2/18

We made it to Caldas!!! Yes, there is sheer joy in this post, let me explain. We were supposed to walk from Pontevedra to Caldas yesterday, but I got food poisoning on Friday night 😕. Spent all day in bed yesterday and set off this morning with all sorts of plan B’s, but Ken’s unfailing support, a blessing of strength and inherited fortitude (thanks Mom!) got us there

Mostly country roads, a lot of asphalt and no-shade open terrain. Passed lots of grape vines, and corn that is ready to be picked! We were glad we had hydrated our Kool Ties last night, they helped keep us cool as it was 31 degrees when we finally got to Caldas.

We welcomed these arbors along the trail for the shade they provided. Many family owned vineyards along this stretch with vines on trellises.

Hand painted tiles on the side of a house, showing St. James, the Santiago Cathedral and the sign of the Camino.

Someone said they knew they were in Estrella Galicia when they saw this sign (Estrella is the local beer, Galicia being the region we are in). We were just glad we had to follow yellow arrows!

Ken said he left him speechless!

The cemeteries are all so well cared for, even in remote churches.

Some beautiful spots for respite along the Way.

We tried to obey the speed limit, even though others kept passing us!

87 degrees when we got to Caldas de Reis! The hot springs that the town is named after had no appeal.
