Along the river to the sea

Sorry for not posting sooner…we have had some days of poor wifi and then some days where we were walking….let’s see, what other excuses can I make?! But when my mother called, asking if we were ok, I knew it was time to get going.

We continued our walk from Os Costanos along the river, listening to the sounds of the frogs and birds, with beautiful views along the way. Then we got to the Bridge of The Godfather’s where it is believed that women used to participate in a fertility ritual. After that the trail wound through some pretty little villages, eventually reaching the coast about 3 km from our final destination for the day at Vilanova de Arousa.

The band played for us as we left that morning…

As we walked on beautiful shaded paths

With the river flowing along beside us

We walked a little bit faster than this guy

Till we got to the Bridge at Pontearnelas, the site of fertility rituals in days gone by

When there must have been a lot of Alberto’s, Alberta’s or Berta’s running around

As we continued through the quaint little villages, we stopped in the Capilla de San Pedro

Till we got to the ocean

And then we enjoyed the sea breezes as we walked to the sound of the gentle wavesRemember those horreos we talked about a few days ago in Combarro that were used for storing grains in the olden days? Apparently property owners are not allowed to demolish them, so when we passed this house made from restored horreos we thought it was an ingenious solution!

Finally we got to the footbridge to cross over into Vilanova de Arousa.

And we were able to sit down and enjoy a snack and some cool drinks

  1. I enjoy so much how you caption your photos. Something most people don’t do on FB and blogs (I am guilty). The photos have more meaning when you know what you are looking at. Enjoy the rest of your trip and keep posting. Big hugs to you both from me and Ingo!
