After the orange skies and smoky haze of Sydney, it was wonderful to land in Tasmania, or Tassie as it’s called, to blue skies and clear, fresh air!

It was the first time we’ve seen a sniffer dog on a luggage carousel! Tasmania has one of the most stringent bio security requirements in the world – we were even told to leave behind the food given to us on the plane!

As it’s hard to get around Tasmania without a car, we rented one, with Ken being the brave one driving on the wrong, er, other side of the road….if only I had a dollar for every time he hit the windshield wiper instead of the turn signal…

But there are always interesting things to see along the way, like all the unusual mailboxes near the town of Wilmot.

And wonderful places to stop like Ashgrove Cheese Farm for a yummy lunch! Tasmania is big into dairy farming, and their cow, sheep and goat cheeses are all delicious!

Luckily there are also great places to walk off that scrumptious food, like the 6 km walk around Dove Lake near Cradle Mountain, which is one of the 60 Great Short Walks in Tasmania.

Love this. Keep it coming! We sure know that windshield wiper trick. Wonder if our HOA would approve these mailbox enhancements…
