Thursday was a short day, only about 3 hours of walking from Arcade to Pontevedra including the alternate route. As a distinct change from the Senda Litoral (coastal path), it was also the first day we encountered many pilgrims. One cafe owner on the way said he sees up to 300 peregrinos passing by a day! After leaving the town of Arcade, most of today was a lovely walk through countryside and forest. After getting a stamp at the Capela de Santa Marta we took the alternate or Complementario route to continue along a stream through a beautiful stretch of woodland to Pontevedra.
It’s almost harvest season! I’m amazed they have any grapes left on the vines next to the Camino 🤣

Santuario de la Virgen Peregrina in Pontevedra.
Mejillones a la vinagreta (mussels in vinegar, topped with onions, peppers and tomatoes, baked in a wine vinegar sauce)…..yum!
Even though we pass lots of plots where vegetables are being grown, they are scarce in restaurants. A green salad of lettuce, tomatoes and carrots is the norm so I was happy to find grilled mushrooms.
We love being out in the towns in the evening, they are so full of life and energy!

Your pictures make the trail vivid. i’ve known several people to make the hike but i always have to rely on a verbal description. You look like your having a great time. Keep it up, but we’ll miss Ken this week.
