After a trip to India in March to finalise Bina’s mother’s estate, we had earned a trip to the Maldives!
A quick two and a half hour flight from Mumbai, and we landed in the capital city of Malé. From there, a 45 minute speedboat ride took us to the island of Helengeli and our home for the next 4 nights.

We had splurged on an over water villa….

….so we could sleep to the sound of gentle waves lapping against the decking. Our outdoor shower was one that we wished we could take home with us, minus the geckos!

We ate all our meals outdoors by the water….

And you knew this was next, right? Food porn!!

Luckily we had quite a walk back to our villa. We managed to walk 5+ kms every day, just going back and forth to different places on the island.

And we got plenty of exercise snorkelling around in the warm waters.

While staying away from the reef sharks, and looking at an amazing variety of fish… clockwise, from top left, Blue Triggerfish, Bluespotted Spinefoot, Blue Tang and Orangespine Unicornfish

Beautiful! How long was the trip back to Portugal and what stops did you make?

Stunning pictures! Reminds me of Roratanga, Cook Islands, but more upscale. Must put this on our bucket list!

Hi Paul. From Malé, we flew back to Mumbai, stayed one night near the airport and then back to Lisbon via Dubai the next day. Mumbai to Lisbon was 12 hours total, not including the 3-hour stop in Dubai.

Thanks, Anonymous. We do recommend the Maldives, particularly if you’re traveling in that part of the world (Indian Ocean). If you’re into snorkelling, make sure you go when the water is calm. Avoid the monsoon season.

Such a beautiful place!! Love your pictures. My sister and I recently took a 9 day cruise with the last stop in Aruba. Beautiful island with such strange Cacti. Was disappointed how commercialized it’s become. So happy that you guys can explore such interesting places and share with us. Thank you!
